  1. You have a terrific podcast. I’m glad Mars came on. When I watch the show I enjoy the OST and even hum the main theme song. But generally I’m a Rolling Stones and rock kind of guy (note: they have great ballads too). I’ve watched all of your choices. Only one I couldn’t get through was Itaewan Class. It just seemed so predictable. For future shows Vincenzo; Sky Castle; My Mister; All of us are Dead and Good Bad Mother; Attorney Woo-my first, are all excellent. My problem when I watch is the names. I’m over 70 so I just can’t get use to changing the order. Thanks

  2. There are so many great OSTs! Crash Landing on you was the first one I loved but recently I’ve added Tell me that you love me, Lovely Runner, Goblin, Itaewon class and Castaway Diva! My OST favorites playlist just seems to get longer every time I find a new drama!

  3. What a fantastic episode! Mars and Joanna, you are great together and your conversation was so fun to hear! How lovely that Sung Hee's well deserved vacation offered an opportunity for this, though I missed hearing her takes, too. This is absolutely going on my list of episodes to re-listen to.

If I could only ever listen to one OST for the rest of my life, it would be the It's Okay To Not Be Okay OST. I loved it so much that I bought the CD collection in addition to all the iTunes downloads and the permanent rotation in my Spotify playlists. I actually don't listen to a ton of Korean music in general--I have a couple girl group favs, but otherwise only listen to songs from OSTs when that song means a lot to me. The IOTNBO album is the only OST that I regularly listen to in almost its entirety, for all the reasons you discussed in this episode. I particularly love to blast it at ridiculous volumes while driving on the highway on lovely autumn days ☺️

  4. I LOVE so many OSTs! Here are my favorites:
    1. CLOY - of course. I bought the album! Here I am Again and Flower are my faves.
    2. Descendants of the Sun - not one of my top 10 dramas but You are my Everything by Gummy evokes so many emotions whenever I hear it.
    3. Scarlet Heart - did not buy the OST but all of the songs there are so pretty!
    4. Park Hyung Sik's Because of You from his drama, Strong Woman Bong Soon.
    5. Words of your Heart by Kim Yeon-ji from I Am Not a Robot - makes me want to cry whenever I hear it
    6. Hospital Playlist songs

The list goes on and on and my KDRAMA OST playlist is growing everytime I watch a new drama.

The OSTs were my gateway to Kpop. :)

  5. So great to have Mars on the show! I'm just sorry I missed you, but I'm hoping you'll come back again!

It's wonderful to hear all the love that you all have for the wonderful music in these OSTs. I have to confess that I am a latecomer to this. I'm now embarrassed to say that when I first started on Kdramachat with Joanna, I hardly noticed the music at all. Now I am a true convert.

  6. Writing a comment: take three

I have a strong emotional connection to music where I tend to listen to certain songs in order to feel a certain way. If a song makes me cry, it gains my highest rating. I also connect songs to events and people in my life. Music helps me gain focus as well. I spend a LOT of time listening to it.

Kdramas are no different as OSTs are curated to evoke certain feelings. I have subconsciously tuned out OSTs because of the strong emotional content of a show (I’m looking at you, QOT).I have a couple of OSTs that I like especially from Kdramas: “Here We Are “ by Jae Won from Kiss Sixth Sense and “Face to Face” by Analaska from The Eighth Sense (KBL). However, my favorite is from a Tawainese series: “Dangerous Love” by Kenny Wen from Kiseki: Dear to Me (BL). It meets my cry criteria.

I’m very proud of myself for not mentioning kpop.

  7. I loved this episode. I can relate so much since the OST adds so much to a drama. When I listen to the songs it takes me back to the scenes and emotions of the drama. My favorite song from an OST is Very Slowly by BIBI from 25 21. I can have that song playing on repeat all day. Here is my top 10 OST ranking.
    1. Queen of Tears
    2. 25 21
    3. Our Beloved Summer
    4. CLOY
    5. Lovely Runner
    6. Search WWW
    7. Goblin
    8. Romance is a Bonus Book
    9. Hometown CCC
    10. Itaewon Class

  8. Can we get through ONE episode without someone swooning over Hyun Bin!!! ;-)

I really enjoyed this podcast even though I a huge OST fan - at least not like Joanna!

Like Mars, I really liked the OST from Something in the Rain, even though it is not a traditional OST with songs in Korean. I also quite like the OST from Start Up.

But my favorite OST - by far - is Hospital Playlist. I don't know if these songs are on the official OST, but I absolutely love any of the songs where Jeon Mi-do intentionally signs off key!

  9. Hospital Playlist deserves a special mention since the actors play in a band in the show, for real! And I just love the song After A Day from the K-drama "Live".

  10. I enjoyed listening to this podcast as well. I have two huge ever growing playlists on Apple Music that continue to grow, one for OST’s with vocals and one with instrumentals that I shuffle constantly, depending on my mood. My favorite OSTs are Queen of Tears and Extraordinary Attorney Woo. I love how when I hear certain songs they totally evoke the drama and take me back to certain scenes. Thanks for always mentioning the OSTs in your podcasts - back when I first started watching Kdramas I heard you mention the term and I had to Google it to find out what it was! Since then, they have become a delightful part of my Kdrama experience!

  11. I loved this episode! I totally loved hearing about the different opinions and your insights on OST’s. The right OST can truly impact whether I really love a drama. The tying in of music is key to a quality drama.
I think we need another music episode. I always love J’s recommendations.
One of my favorites is It’s Okay…I could listen to the OST over and over again. I wasn’t going to watch the show, but so glad I gave it a chance. After listening to your reviews I am def going to rewatch it. The drama & the OST affected me so much as I was blown away. Words just can’t describe what I felt. I have so many favorite OST’s and will have to make a list to share. One coming to mind that stands out is the D.P. OST. It’s magnificent ! highly recommend the drama too. I normally don’t post, however, I was compelled to share my thoughts. Ty J & S for all of your hard work and putting out quality content.
