  1. I just LOVE your podcast. My husband has started watching A Time Called You, with me. Yay! I find myself so confused again thinking I'll definitely get the timeline down. Not! Have you ladies every considered doing a season on A Time Called You? 😅

    1. Alegna, we have considered A Time Called You but decided against it when a listener said wondered if we would spend most of our time untangling the timeline. We may do a special, single episode just on A Time Called You because we both loved the show! Thank you for listening!

  2. No! No! No! You ladies got this all wrong! – with a few exceptions! Just kidding (sort of), as I was really looking forward to this episode. And it was a treat to have Jeanne on to give a fresh take on some lesser known – an older – K Dramas and movies which I will be checking out.

So, let’s start with the first egregious snub in the best OST category. You had twelve picks between the four of you (including Ernie who literally just phoned it in), and no one picked Hospital Playlist?! Shameful! I would also add Business Proposal as when I hear those songs I immediately think of the show. My third would be Something in the Rain – both because its is not a traditional OST as all the songs are in English and because Joanna hates that show soooo much! 😉

As for Best Dressed, I think you pretty much nailed it. Who can top IU in Hotel del Luna?! Her outfits are half the enjoyment of the show! And Sol Yea-ji in It’s OK To Not Be Ok is a sold choice. I see Jeane is a fan of Sol In-ah in Business Proposal – as am I! Jeanne, run don’t walk to see Twinkling Watermelon, because she is the female lead in thar show. I think she is going to be a pretty big star going forward. And finally, credit to Ernie for picking a man when he actually has his shirt on!

Which brings me to my next big complaint! Best Abs. Apparently, Korean women don’t have abs?! A shocking and egregious omission that simply shows how maternalistic and misandrist this podcast truly is!!! Do you think these Korean actresses starve themselves just to be ignored by this podcast! While all your picks are fine if you want to live in a world where men exist only to be objectified by the likes of you, perhaps you should have considered Park Min Young (Healer, What’s Wring With Secretary Kim, Marry My Husband, When the Weather is Fine, etc….), Han So-hee (My Name, Nevertheless, Gyeong Creature, etc…), and Jung So-min (Alchemy of Souls, Because This is My First Life, Love Next Door, etc.) She would also win best lips if you had included that category. In any event, please do better in the future! 😉

Worst English Language actor is a funny one. I think Vincenzo is a good call. I don’t speak Italian, but I was not convinced he grew up in Italy. I think of all the white American or European actors that show up in these shows over and over again and how bad almost all of them are at acting! Should I move to Korea and become an actor?! Whoever said the American officer in Mr. Sunshine was also in Descendant’s of the Sun was correct. I think he is actually one of the better English language actors, although he is not without his issues. There is one young blonde woman who seems to be in everything, but I can’t seem to find her in any of the credits. There is also this actor Kaare Svejgaard Olsen is Danish and is in a lot of shows. He was in QOT. He usually plays either a businessman or an American or European Doctor. Invariably, one of his lines is, “Your English is quite good” – Even when its not!

As for favorite K Drama phrase, you have some good ones. I especially like Chong. I love words that have a very specific meaning in another language or culture that don’t easily translate. Much like Saudes!

My personal favorites are “Ya!” (야! ) which is just Hey! I say it al the time now. Mostly to my cat when she is scratching the furniture. Another favorite is Aigoo (아이고), preferably said with an exhausting sigh. Another one that I’ve incorporated into my daily life. Another great one is chugeullae! ( 죽을래) which is “do you want to die!?” Often said to a friend or sibling as opposed to an actual enemy!

Finally, you really left out the biggest villain in K Drama history! The Mom in Something in the Rain!!! IYKYK....

Ok. That’s enough for now. Love the podcast – if not all your choices! ;-)

    1. Malcolm, thank you for all the love! Always!

You are right about Hospital Playlist. We were so wrong not to include it in our best OST category. I stand corrected! I LOVE Jeon Mi-do and think her voice is heavenly. I did list Me To You, You To Me in my list of favorite songs and that song is from Hospital Playlist.

And you are right about Aigoo. Filipinos say Aya! And it can be used in many, many ways.

And perhaps you are right about best villain. The mom in Something In The Rain ruined that show for me! I promise to come back to it. What do you think of Love Next Door? I love Jung Hae In and Jung So Min.

Thanks for listening and for your hilarious and amazing comments!

    2. Hi Malcolm, I love that you put "Aigoo" (아이구) as a favorite expression. That is a word from my childhood that I heard all the time. It does seem that people in Kdramas nowadays don't seem to say it as often, so I'm glad you pointed it out.

I love "ya!" It's such a great contrast to people usually speaking so politely with each other.

  3. Hello ladies, I just listened to this episode today and had so much fun! What a great concept. I was familiar with most of the shows you mentioned and have seen some of them and have added some to my ever growing watchlist. 😅 I'm so excited for tomorrow’s episode - I was nervous about watching a zombie show, but I actually quite enjoyed episode 1 of kingdom and I can’t wait to hear you dive into it. I’m still nervous to keep going, but excited too. It helps that my husband offered to hold my hand haha. Thanks for your wonderful podcast!

    1. I made my husband watch the first episode with me as well, haha. Although to be fair, at this point, I've seen episode 1 three times in the last two weeks. I'm gonna make him watch the whole season with me so HE can hold my hand as well.

I hope you enjoy this season. Please comment after listening to our 9.1 episode and tell us what you think so far. I hope we convince you that this show is soooooo much more than zombies.

      Thank you for listening!

  4. My friend Brian got me started on Kdramas with Mr Sunshine, and he and another guy friend would say you’re missing out on a whole lot of Kdramas more popular with men! Thanks to them, I’ve watched Vagabond, Stranger 1 and Stranger 2, and more, heavier on crime mystery and action. Both guys did like CLOY though, and thought Mr Sunshine was perfect. If there were more in those genres, I could get them hooked on your podcast like I am!

    1. Hi Ellen, thanks for the suggestion! I have watched Stranger, both seasons, and Cho Seung Woo is one of my favorite actors. He is also in Inside Men, a movie that your male friends may also appreciate. It's a great political thriller bromance which also stars Lee Byung Hun. (It's available on Amazon Prime and Viki). I know as two women, we may tend towards the romance side of things, but we do try to branch out and explore other genres, hence the current foray into zombies with Kingdom. But we are always open to suggestions, especially if there are areas that have not occurred to us. Thanks for listening!

    2. Ellen, what terrific recommendations! We will definitely add action shows like Vagabond and Stranger to the mix. May Bad and Crazy! Great idea, thank you!

    3. Ellen, I have two recommendations that your guy friends might enjoy. The Glory (which is one of the best and most popular K Dramas ever) and My Name. Both are Revenge (Bogsu) dramas. The Glory is more cerebral where as My Name features
      Han So-hee kicking serious ass!

    4. Malcolm, thanks for responding and the recommendation!

  5. Hi, back again, thanks for Mr. Queen! Just finished last night and tonight I’ll listen to your podcasts from the three final episodes. What a great show, which I would never have watched but for you. Somehow I’ll get Brian and Rich going on it by emphasizing the fantastic swordfights! Also recommend Crash Course in Romance, especially it’s great OST. Rich loves the OST’s also.

    1. Hi Ellen, so glad you enjoyed Mr Queen! It's almost become a personal mission for me to push this show on anyone willing to watch. What a novel and inventive mix of modern and historical and I loved the energetic and heartfelt acting by Shin Hye Sun.

I also loved Crash Course in Romance. I appreciated that it was a love story between two people who had lived life, not just another high school romance. Kingdom will be a short season, so we'll be back with another show soon enough.
